How to reach Pavagadh
The Pavagadh Mata temple situated at the hilltop. The height of the temple is 550 meters from sea level. You can reach the hilltop by a stare. Ropeway cable car facility is also available. After the ropeway car, you have to face near about 250 stairs.
We completed 100 stairs. Our lungs working like a pump, breath was very deep. We sit on a stone and asked a visitor-
"How many stairs are remaining"
" Don't very, there are only 150 stairs" he replied and smiled.
Visit and traveling teaches us that you have decided to do something, you will do that definitely. Simultaneously the kindness and graciousness of Mahakali are with us. Why should we afraid? Why should we tired?
It is stated that the idol of Mahakali was established by Rishi Vishvamitra. The river near to the temple called Vishvamitri on the name of Rishi Vishvamitra.
Now finally I am standing in front of Mahakali.
It takes three to four hours in Darshan (seen) of the temple due to so many visitors and long queues. If you come here at Pavagadh, it will be better you reach here early in the morning.
The temple is a good example of social harmony. The idol of Mahakali is on the ground floor while there is Sadan Shah Peer ki Dargah on the first floor.
Why the name Pavagadh wali Mataji.
Pavagadh is count in one of the 51 Shaktipeeth. The thumb of the leg of Sati fell here So the place called Pava (foot) Gadh.
According to another story, the temple situated on the hill which is surrounded by a deep moat. The velocity of air (Pavan)is very fast every time hence the place called Pavagadh.
There are 51 Shaktipeeth. Pavagadh is counted in Shaktipeeth. According to our Puran, Daksh Prajapati arranged a Yagan. He has not invited his daughter Sati and son in law Lord Shankar.
Shankarji told to Sati that doesn't go there without an invitation. But Sati reached Yagan. The Asan (seat )for every king and Rishi was fixed. There was no Asan for Lord Shankar.
Sati felt deep insult and jumped in Yagan Kund and died.
Lord, Shankar, kept the dead body of Sati in his hand and wandering here and there in-universe. Lord Vishnu cut the body of Sati into 51 pieces through his Sudarshan Chakra to escape Lord Shankar with the deep grief situation.
The body parts of Sati fell down at 51 places. All these places called Shaktipeeth. All the temple worshiped and has great importance.
Garba is a traditional Gujrati folk dance. The dance is performed in front of the idol of Durga/Kalimata in circle shape during nine days of Nav Ratri Durga Utsav.
The dance is performed by girls in colorful dresses as a prayer of goddess Durga.
Nowadays, boys, girls, and children take part in Garba. Dandiya is another folk dance performed by men is mixed with Garba.
Pankhida tu udke jana Pavagadh re Mahakali se mil me ke kehna garba kheleinge.
(The devote requested that his/her heart, the soul should reach to Pavagadh for Garba dance with Mahakali)
The Jain temple is also an important place for a visit. It is situated in the southeast of Pavagarh hill. The idol of Shri Parshvanath in white color seated in the lotus posture.
After the temple, now we are moving towards monuments and mosques. As long we reach there a simple history of Champaner.
Champaner city built by King Vanraj Chavda and named it his general Champaraj. During 15th-century Mehmud Begada captured Pavagadh/Champaner from Rajput ruler Raval Jai Singh and shift the capital from Ahmedabad to Champaner. Later Mughal emperor again shift capital to Ahemdabad and left Champaner in ruin condition. The place went out of sight of the public.
The Champaner once again rediscovered during British ruling in India. The restoration work of monument started.
In 2004, the Champaner Pavagarh taken in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites.
Jami Masjid is the main mosque of Champaner with beautiful carving on walls and pillars.
