Orchha
OrchhaRam Darbar Post-10
Today I am here at Ram Darbar Orcha. Orcha is a very old temple of Bhagwan Shri Ram where he worshiped like a king. This is the only temple in India where Shri Ram is worshiped like a king. Orchha is a city of Bundel Rajput dynasty on the bank of river Betwa, here the river divided into seven channels. They are called Satdhara.
The first king of Orchha was Rudra Pratap Singh who built the Fort of Orchha. The fort consists of mainly three parts. These are Raj Mahal, Jehangir Mahal, and Rai Praveen Mahal.
Raja Ram temple built by Raja Bir Singh is a square base temple, very simple and plain. It is said that the queen Ganesh Kumari wife of Madhukar Shah was a great follower of Lord Ram. As usual, the king said you are a great follower of Lord Ram, you can bring him here at Orchha. Queen takes it as a challenge.
She ordered her men to prepared a temple for Lord Rama and went to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram. She prayed for a long time but her prayer does not take care. She decided to sacrifice her life and jumped into the river Saryu. All of sudden she got the idol of Ram in her hand stating a loud voice that I will establish where you put me first.
She came back Orchha with the idol. She kept the idol temporarily in her place because the temple(chaturbhuj temple) was under construction. Afterward when the statue proved impossible to be moved. She remembered the condition of Lord Ram, the place converted into a temple called Raja Ram temple.
Now once again come to the fort. Jehangir Mahal built on a rectangle shape along with a tower on each corner and a dome at the top. The Mahal was built to, commemorate the visit of Jahangir to Orchha. It is a very good example of Mughal architecture.
You can see the beautiful view of Orchha City from the roof of Uthkhana. Uthkhana is a place where the camel of the state was kept, is the next to the fort. At present, it is a ruin condition. There is a light and sound show in the evening at Jahangir Mahal.
