Amarkantak temple


             I reached Amarkantak.I catch Amarkantak to reach Amarkantak.A train runs between Bhopal and Raipur named Amarkantak.
             Amarkantak is a holy town of M P in Anuphur district. Amarkantak is situated on Maikal mountain. The two range of hills, Vindhyachal and Satpura meet here. Amarkantak is an origin point (Udgan Sthal) of Narmada, Johila and some river.

           The poet Kalidas also described in his literature it as Amarkoot. Amar means mango. There are lots of mango tree in the area.
           I started at 3.45 pm from Bhopal. The train got late and reached Shadol at 2 AM. I decided to stay at Shahdol till morning. I got a hotel easily near railway station. Next morning I told to the Manager please arrange a taxi for Amarkantak.

             The taxi was ready , we moved for Amarkantak at 8.30AM.

          It was a pleasant morning. Our car running between green hill. Chirping of birds, jumping of monkey, all they are busy in their daily routine work.  It is a very rich and dense forest area found here.

          Narmada Kund is a place where Maa Narmada emerged(Udgam Sthal).The place called Udgam Sthal. Near about 16 big and small temples are around the Udgam Sthal. Narmada Kund is very small and everyone wonders that this small point is the reason for big dem.

Kapil Dhara

        It is near about 100 feet high waterfall which is 8 Km from Narmada Kund. It is said that Kapli rishi spend his time here in meditation and Puja.

Dudh Dhara

       Dudh Dhara is next waterfall to Kapil Dhara. The stream looks like milk. It is very calm and quiet waterfall.

Sonmuda

             Sonmuda is the origin point of Son river. Its natural beauty and sunrise are famous.

Mai is Bagicha

         Mai is Bagicha is a fruit and flower garden.Many kinds of mango, banana, other fruit and flowers are available here.

Kabir Chabutra

         Kabir Chabutra is also a point of the visit. It is stated that Sant  Kabir came here spent much time in meditation.

Jwleshwar Temple

           Jwleshwar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva in the way of Pendra road.

Trimukhi Temple

          The temple made like the face of Lord Shiva and dedicated to Shiv.

Kalturi Temple

         The ancient temple built by King Karandev in the 11th century. It is just behind of Narmada Kund.

Dams  on the Narmada

            Near about 3000 dams is to be built under this project. Out of which 30 will be big dams.
         At present, the Sardar Sarovar dam and other dam have changed the lives of people of Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh.


Where to stay

         A few accommodation facilities are available here. You can stay in hotels and MPST gust house. It will be better you stay at Shahdol or Bilaspur for cheap as well as high standard accommodation and all kinds of food.

        Narmada Jayanti celebrated on Makar Sankranti every year in January.Whole temple complex decorated with flowers and light. Maha Arti performed on this occasion. So many pilgrims.attend the function.

         You can attend Maa Narmada daily Arti performed morning and evening.

How to reach Amarkantak



Way to Amarkantak

        Amarkantak is 106 Km from Shahdol and &79 Km from Anuppur. The nearest railway stations are Anuppur and Pendra Road. Pendra Road is only 17 Km from Amarkantak. You can reach by road from Shahdol or Bilaspur.
       Jabalpur is the nearest airport which is 240 Km. Flight from Delhi Mumbai and another part of the country are available. You can take a taxi from here.

     Amarkantak is in the range of two wildlife sanctuary, Kanha National Park and Achanakmar National Park. Herbs and medicinal plants found in this area.

      The best time for a visit to Amarkantak is the winter season. During winter you can see natural beauty at full bloom as well as so many little waterfalls.

        The Narmada is the lifeline of Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh which is flowing for long...since long...Our life is also like this. Rig Ved says Chareveti...Chareveti...(move on...move on...).

         Oh, it's at 6.30 pm. Sun also going behind the hills throwing reddish-brown rays on Amarkantak.

    I told my friend "boss back to pavilion(Shahdol)

             He replied, "Yes sir."

       We reached Shahdol near about 8 pm and took a diner. The Amarkantak (train)is at right time i.e.1 AM. So I was in a relaxed mood. The next morning I was at Bhopal.

    Please, make your travel trip to Amarkantak. which is called Teerthraj(king of all pilgrim)
