Bhojpur: An Old Temple Of Lord Shiva-Post 5

         Bhojpur is a very old and famous temple of Lord Shiva near Bhopal. It is a temple without a roof. It is near the river Betva in Raisen district. The temple built by Parmar king Rajabhoj. There is 18 feet high Shivling of one stone. The diameter of Shivling is 7.5 feet.

           It is built during the 11th century. The unfinished and incomplete rock and stone found at the site. The reason for none completion of the temple is an unknown puzzle. People said that the condition of the construction of the temple was that it should be completed in one night. But unfortunately it has not been completed in one night and construction work stopped due to the dawn of the sun.


          There is a slope way behind the temple which was used to bring heavy stone pillar. There is four pillars of 40 feet high and incomplete roof stand on these pillars.
         
            It is said that king Bhoj was effected a skin disease. Vaidhya suggested that used water where seven rivers meet. He searches and got Bhopal lake where seven river meets. He likes the place and constructed Lord Shiv temple at Bhojpur.

How to reach Bhojpur


           The Bhojpur is near about 28 km from Bhopal and 77 km from Vidisha. One day tour programmed is sufficient for Sanchi, Bhojpur, and Bhimbetika with staying at Bhopal. Bhimvetika is only 25 km from Bhojpur and it is a world heritage site. Bhopal situated on Delhi Mumbai central railway is the capital of Madhya Pradesh. You can get trains, buses, and plane from here.

             There is a very old Jain temple of Bhagwan Shantinath. The idol is 6 meters high. Two other idols of Parshvnath and Suparasnath are in the temple.



           There is a great function on Maha Shivratri and Maker Sankranti. Thousands of people attend to pray of Lord Shiva. Three days Bhojmahotsav also organized on Maha Shivratri.

          On the other hand, Bhojpur emerged as a beautiful picnic destination near Bhopal. Betva river also increased the importance of this temple.
